The Life of a Development Manager... in pictures

This blog... what is it good for?

A fair question...


In my 29th year, I became the Development Manager for a small software company in Central PA called Knowledgeplanet, later called Mzinga. Like most small engineering organizations, we run too many projects with not enough time, not enough people, too little focus, and too few requirements. Historically, we've been in the no-win situation of a company that can't decide if its a custom software shop or a product. Lately, we've been slowly changing that to make the entire operation a more sustainable business, but its a deliberate act and sometimes both slow and painful.

There are many challenges to overcome. Some will be. Others will remain in the proverbial "Phase 2".

I have a whiteboard in my office that has become one collection point for the "things to remember" - a fraction of the experience but a visual representation none-the-less. As an act of historical record and artistic interest, I periodically take a picture of the board and post it here.
